The political frame
of leadership focuses on strategy and tactics and is rooted in political
science. Under this frame, organizations are thought of as arenas or jungles.
Within these organizations scarce resources can cause conflict. These conflicts
are handled by bargaining, negotiation, and jockeying between the members of
the organization. An effective leader in
the political frame mindset is a great negotiator. They lead through advocacy
and coalition building. In order to build networks a political leader must
first identify the relevant relationships that are essential to the cause. Then
determine those who may oppose this coalition. And finally plan meetings with those
in opposition to educate and negotiate with them.
